There’s not much of a reward in betting with the crowd. If you want a significant return on an investment, you’ve got to be willing to bet against the crowd. If a company is doing poorly, most think it will continue to do poorly, or vice versa—a company doing well will continue to do so. Be cautious and don’t confuse good businesses with good investments. They’re not always one and the same. Investors’ expectations usually are built into a stock price, and you’ll be rewarded if you understand that when expectations change, so will the price of the stock.
